The District

C5 is starting a classical Christian Urban School District in Wichita and expanding to the whole of the state of Kansas. C5’s first school is Hope Academy Wichita, located at Incarnation Anglican Church, an Anglican parish in an under-resourced neighborhood in east Wichita. Hope Academy Wichita is the prototype school that the other schools will be modeled after.

What is the District?

The District will operate similarly to a public school district. All schools that belong to the district will be overseen by the District superintendent. The District will hire & train faculty members who are mission-aligned followers of Christ, administer the operations and finances, develop & oversee curriculum development, and do fundraising for all District schools.

Why Start a District School?

C5 wants to partner with churches who are looking to make radical transformative impacts in their communities. There are few opportunities that are as transformative in urban communities than the 15,000 hours that a child spends in school from Kindergarten-12th grade.

Imagine that the children in your neighborhood spent those 15,000 hours being formed by a beautiful, rich classical Christian education, allowing you to be able to minister the gospel to them and their families day-in and day-out, year after year. By law, every child must be educated. Can you think of a better opportunity to have a truly transformative impact in your community?

If your answer that last question, as “No”, then I’m willing to bet that it still feels remarkably overwhelming. That’s where C5 comes in. We want to help make the impossible possible.

What is required to host a District School?

District schools will be housed in churches that meet the following criteria:

  1. Aligned with C5 Statement of Faith.

  2. Church facility located in walking-distance for low-income families (approximately 1-mile walk).

  3. A “Champion” from that church who is fully committed to the vision and willing to put in the hard labor of promoting the school within the church and in the community.

  4. Pastoral staff & volunteers of church are committed to embrace the school as an extension of their church’s ministry & outreach.

  5. Church will provide adequate classroom space for 2-3 classrooms, recreation space, and a space for lunch at a minimum, Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:30pm, August through June (time required may be less than this) at no cost to C5. C5 will cover added expense of utilities (typically covering 5/6 of utilities costs) and will help raise funds to improve spaces used by the school. Space will be provided periodically for recruitment events, parent-support events, and 2 “Saturday schools” per year.

  6. Church is willing to commit to 3-years of access to/usage of this space on a rolling 3-year basis (renews every year).

  7. Pastoral staff will lead chapels (at least 1x/week), oversee spiritual formation of students, and seek to support parents/caretakers of students by providing a community of support and faith if needed and/or desired by the parent/caretaker. Opportunities are available for church staff to teach Bible curriculum and/or lead prayer or worship on a daily basis.

If your church will commit to these things, we will take care of the rest!
